Baptism (Sometimes called 'Christening')Baptism - a new beginning Baptism is a wonderful event which marks the start of a journey of faith. Baptism is also a welcome into the local church community and, for young children, the celebration of the wonder of a new life. Baptism is one of the two principal sacraments of the Church of England. A sacrament is a means of God’s grace, a way in which God offers humankind the opportunity to share in his life. Baptism is also called the "first sacrament" because it is the sacrament through which the Church supports an individual person’s response in faith to God in Christ. Can I arrange a baptism to be held at St James Church ? Anyone who lives in the Parish of Daisy Hill can be baptised at St James and we are always delighted to discuss any questions you might have. If you are unsure, contact us. When are baptisms held ? Baptisms take place at the main Sunday service at 9.30pm, on the first Sunday of each month. Subject to availability, baptisms can also be arranged for 11.30pm on the third Sunday of each month. At St James we do not hold baptisms during Advent (basically the days in December running up to Christmas) or Lent (Very roughly during part of February, March and part of April).
