                                      Funerals

St James Church will support and welcome you
When you come to arrange a funeral, you may have had recent contact with Fr Jeremy or previous Vicars, or it may be a long time since you or the deceased had any contact with St James Church.

Either way, be assured that the St James Church community will welcome you and do all they can to help you with the funeral arrangements.

Arrange the funeral through your Funeral Director
It is probably best in the first instance to arrange the funeral through your undertaker. This is because it is necessary to co-ordinate the availability of the priest, the Church (if required) and the cemetery or crematorium.

The undertaker should be aware that no firm arrangements should be made for the funeral until they have spoken to the priest conducting the funeral service.     This is especially important now in these days when priests are fewer than they used to be.   The local priest may have other arrangements which he cannot change for the  time you would like the funeral, or the Church may already be booked for something else.

There are two Westhoughton based Funeral Directors.  These include

The funeral can be held in church for a cremation as well as a   burial
Often a burial is preceded by a funeral in church, but so too can a cremation be preceded in the same way.  Please consider that a funeral in a church usually means there is more time available than if the service is conducted entirely at the crematorium.
