Prayer
Prayer should be at the heart of that a Christian does, but invariably it is something that many people find difficult. The disciples themselve found prayer difficult at first. The Gospels remind us that when Jesus went off to pray, often he would visit an isolated spot. When the disciples accompanied him, on more than one occasion they ended up falling asleep.
It was only when the disciples had been with Jesus, and grew in their relationship with God did the disciples become more experienced with prayer. Part of our growing in prayer involves a searching for stillness, both in immediate vincinity but also deep down within our own psyche. Today's 24/7 modern world does not make this search any easier. On this webpage, there links to a number of different ways of praying. There are the Chuirch of England's morning and evening prayer. Just follow the link and the whole service will appear in your browser. The Bible gateway provides a text from, the bible for you to consider as you grab a sandwich for lunch. The Anglican Cycle of Prayer reminds us of our duty to pray for others, as well as use prayer for the inevitable shopping list of things that we need God's help in. The Taizé Community, France provide quite a different way of praying. Listen to the recording on the website. The chant repeats over and over and all of them are simple sayings tasken from the bible or Saint. By repeating them over and over again, prayer becomes very simple and uncomplicated. |
