                                      Sunday School

St James Church has a thriving Sunday School
Over the past few years on average about 20 children have attended Sunday School each  week, with up to fifty different children registered with us.

At Sunday School our (aim/mission) is to lead children in their understanding of what it means to be a Christian. We explore the teaching of Jesus and the Bible at a level the children can access so that they can develop their understanding of Christian concepts. We also reflect on how the teachings of Jesus impact on our own lives.

Sunday School always aims to be fun. – The last thing any of us want is to be stuffy.  So, when we are learning about being a Christian we use many different approaches.  For example, children can expect to hear stories, use drama to act them out, sing songs, complete art and craft activities, play games and do
quizes –- all  appropriate to their age.   These activities provide children with an enjoyable  way to engage with the teaching of Jesus, (discovering/finding) deeper meaning.

We hope that the experience of every child at Sunday School will play an important part in their continuing development as Christians.

When does the Sunday School Meet ?

Sunday School meets during the main Sunday Service. Sunday School starts promptly at 9.30am and is held in the Old School Hall of St James Primary School.

Sunday School is not a morning creche and it is the expectation that parents/guardians sending their children to Sunday School, will be in attendence at the church service.   At around 10.15am, all children from Sunday School will be accompanied by Sunday School leaders to St James church.   All children may be collected from church after the service has finished - usually around 10.40.

Email a program of Sunday School meetings.

How can my child attend Sunday School ?
